I had the amazing opportunity to receive an invitation to attend the world premiere of “Lamborghini – The Man Behind the Legend” in Rome on October 23, 2022. Having been living in Italy for many years, I’ve been accustomed to seeing gorgeous Lamborghini cars in Rome, although I’ve never been in one myself.
Lamborghini is an iconic Italian brand and manufacturer of luxury sports cars and SUVs based in Sant’Agata Bolognese founded by Ferruccio Lamborghini.
Scenes related to the World Premiere in Rome on October 23, 2022 of “Lamborghini – The Man Behind the Legend“. While currently owned by Volkswagen Group through its subsidiary Audi, Lamborghini was founded by Ferruccio Lamborghini. Ferruccio was an Italian automobile designer, visionary genius, and entrepreneur who created the most beautiful car in the world.
`The special city event was held in collaboration with Alice nella Città. The film was produced by Lambo Film, executive production of ILBE (Iervolino & Lady Bacardi Entertainment), and Notorious Pictures in collaboration with Prime Video.
“Lamborghini – The Man Behind the Legend” World Premiere in Rome Oct 23, 2022
Our evening at the premiere began with an aperitif at Rome Cavalieri hotel, where a fleet of stunning Lamborghini cars graced the parking lot. At the conclusion of the aperitif, the Lamborghini cars left Cavalieri preparing for the arrival of the actors and VIPs attending the film premiere at Auditorium Conciliazione on Via della Conciliazione just a short distance from St Peter’s Basilica.
We trailed the stunning column of Lamborghini cars escorted by a Lamborghini police car and officers on motorcycles through Rome on their way to the Premiere event. Among the luxurious Lamborghini cars arriving at the red carpet was a Lamborghini Tractor (appropriate since Ferruccio Lamborghini built farm tractors before designing luxury sports cars).
Following the Red Carpet arrival, guests of the event were able to enter the auditorium through a side access. Our seats were just a couple of rows in front of the VIP section.
Prior to the screening, there was an approximate 15-minute introduction by director Bobby Moresco and actor Frank Grillo in English (translated into Italian by the host who was also the interpreter), followed by Monika Bacardi, Tonino Lamborghini and other key persons who spoke in Italian.
You can watch scenes from various stages of the event in the video I created from iPhone clips I took.
How was the movie “Lamborghini – The Man Behind the Legend”?
I would say the movie about Ferruccio was as beautiful as the cars he designed. Actor Frank Grillo nailed the adult Ferruccio, as did Gabriel Byrne as Enzo Ferrari. Originally Antonio Banderas was considered for the role of Ferrucio, and Alec Baldwin as Enzo…. However, Frank Grillo and Gabriel Byrne were by far superior choices for these two iconic Italians. Mira Sorvino played the role of Ferruccio’s second wife. The Italian actors’ English was perfect, with just enough of a slight Italian accent to add credibility.
The movie takes you on a journey of Ferruccio Lamborghini from when he returns from the war to his family’s farm in Cento (his family was winemakers and farmers), marries his sweetheart, and envisions building agricultural machinery instead of working the farm like his family. His background as a mechanic drew him to machinery over farming.
As petrol in Italy was extremely expensive, Ferruccio reconfigured the Morris engines with a fuel atomizer that he created which allowed the tractors to be started with petrol, then switch to less expensive diesel fuel.
All the trials and tribulations of building the tractor of his dreams, the lack of funds, his wife dying while giving birth to Tonino, and a love triangle takes you to the next phase of Ferruccio’s life when he fulfills his dream of becoming a great tractor manufacturer (Lamborghini Trattori).
In the movie’s later chapter, we see Ferruccio’s successful business ventures also include boats, air conditioning, and heating systems. His son, Tonino, grew up in this environment. This is when we learn what inspired Ferruccio to build the exotic Lamborghini sports cars, and how we made the impossible possible.
