Food Lovers Tour in Florence: Florentine Steak & Dessert
Our Food Lovers culinary adventure in Florence continues with a traditional Florentine lunch at a local trattoria recommended by Judy Witts Francini where we feast on and learn about Florentine Steak! The tour continues in search for the perfect desert: chocolates!
It always helps to get the personal recommendation of a local expert who knows the ins and outs of their city and will steer you away from tourist traps and introduce you to secrets held dear by the locals!
Florentine Steak at Osteria Pepo
Sampling our way through Market left me hungry for more….more like a Florentine Steak, something you will not find in the US because theFlorentine Steak comes from the giant (and ancient!) breed Chianina cows, and no such cows exist in the US. If you’re new to Florence and looking for a traditional local restaurant, it helps to have a local guide like Judy who knows where to take you for the meal of your lifetime!
And Judy took us to Osteria Pepo. An osteria is a local neighborhood restaurant that specializes in regional cuisine. They can range from simple hang-outs with inexpensive food and wine, to more upscale establishments like Osteria Pepo with Florentine steak on the menu!! Hmmm….buon appetito to me!!
In the video Judy let us know what makes these steaks so special and how they should be prepared and eaten!Artisan Hand Crafted Chocolates at Coccole
So even after a big Florentine Steak lunch, there’s room for desert, and to satisfy our sweet tooth, we hit the Florence streets again and headed to Coccole. Even the name sounds delicious!! Like so many of Italy’s businesses, Coccole is a family cafe specializing in deserts and unique hand crafted artisan chocolates.
In the vide we watch how artisan chocolates are made by hand right on the premises!Bagels in Florence!
Craving bagels in Florence? There’s one more place I want to show you, and this is a very important place to know about if you’re in Florence and miss having bagels for breakfast!! Just don’t be like me and come in the afternoon looking for a bagel, they all disappear by then!!

For many people who are short on time or not up for the physical challenge of DIY travel, having the benefit of a private vehicle and personal driver allows them to squeeze more into their day, not have to worry about transportation, and minimize walking from place to place. For larger groups up to 8 persons it can be quite economical way to tour and sightsee in comfort.
